ABOUT ME

Born and bread in Blyth, Northumberland. I never started singing till relatively late in life, i was 16 before i tried karaoke properly. Got good feedback and a few people telling me to try it in the pubs and clubs, but nothing really changed for the next 10 years. Raising 3 children with my wife Janine, the odd karaoke was the most i got.

So life ticked on nicely until one of my best friends Kai Humphries (Now an extremely talented comedian, check him out www.kaihumphries.com) asked me to do a music spot to warm up the crowd for some up and coming comedians.  I sang 5 songs and was asked to do an encore. I have added these videos into the music section but please rememeber this was my first gig and was in 2009.

It's sounds extremely crazy when i say it now, but Christmas 2009 changed my life and because of 2 books. My wife got me 2 autobiographies.  Bon Jovi and Meatloaf, probably not everyones idea of inspirational reading but they were for me. For years i had toyed with the idea of going solo but having young kids and not wanting to lose time with them i held off. After these 2 books it all changed. I spoke to Janine and said i need to do it now, but we didn't have the money for the equipment so the best option was to find a gigging band that was looking for a singer.

Possibly the most important stepping stone in my singing career, although it was never intended to be a stepping stone. I looked around on forums and singer wanted sites and lined up a few auditions. My main issue with these auditions was lack of confidence which was strange for me. Also trying to sing to well, i was always trying to be the best singer as opposed to the best performer or frontman. My 3rd audition was with a local rock covers band The Beer Monkeys. A fantastic bunch of lads and after a 2nd audition with them, i was asked to become their lead singer.

In July 2010 i started my journey through the north east rock scene and loved every minute. It still took me a few months to realise that as much as my voice was important my performance was far more important. So The Beer Monkeys grew in popularity and started gigging twice a weekend sometimes 3, but in 2012 it got too much and i had to check myself into rehab.....only kidding. On top of a full time job and a young family it was just to much to contend with, the band are still gigging check them out here www.thebeermonkeys.co.uk. So life ticked on again until i entered a singing contest in 2014 and got to the final for a chance to win £5k. I never won but the support and enjoyment of the whole thing re-ignited the performer in me. So here i am hoping to see you all at a gig soon.
